The Alden Men’s Club Aids Area Residents in Many Ways
The Alden Men’s Club is growing! With over 50 active members the nondenominational service organization meets on the last Saturday of each month in the basement of Alden’s United Methodist Church.
This time of year they are busy gearing up for their Annual Rummage Sale on Saturday July 25th from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and there is much to do in preparation for this major fundraising effort. The men welcome garage sale leftovers and spring cleaning cast off. They have learned from experience that what one man considers “trash” can become another man’s “treasure” and are busy collecting, sorting and organizing usable items donated for their sale.
The sale takes place each year in July and coincides with Alden Days. Proceeds from this sale and from the club’s “Annual Harvest Dinner” which is held in September provides aid for Alden and Rapid City residents who need assistance. In recent years the organization has financially contributed to the Rapid City Food Bank, the Rapid City PTA, “Save the Pets” at the Antrim County Animal Shelter, Pastor’s Relief Fund, area food banks, women’s club with baskets for the needy, Vacation Bible School at the Alden United Methodist Church, aid for the needy at Sacred Heart Church, sponsored a foster child with funds, supported the Boy Scouts of Troop 23, helping send scouts to camp, purchased a walker for a handicapped person and this year they have elected to support “Toys For Tots” in Rapid City and Alden.
If you would like to rid yourself of unwanted but usable items and at the same time help the Men’s Club meet an ever increasing need in the community you may drop items off at the Alden United Methodist Church’s garage on May 23rd, May 30th, June 20th, and June 7th from 10 a.m. - 12: p.m. July 4th, July 11th and July 18th from 10:00 a.m. - 2 p.m.
